 Michałowo

 

Michałowo is an attractive village located in the north – east of Poland In the province of Podlachia. It is a multicultural city of over 3000 people. Tartar, Polish, the Romani people – all of them live here. Michałowo was founded 1863 and its original name was “Niezbudka”.

There are many places worth visiting in Michałowo like Orthodox Church or Catholic Church. In the area of Michałowo rural district there are many villages with their own monuments. In Hieronimowo there are ruins of Manor House, and in Jałówka there are ruins of Catholic Church. An interesting place to visit is Jewish cemetery.

There are many things to do in Michałowo rural district. It is a great place to spend free time. The Community Center in Michalowo offers acting, drawing or music classes. In Pieńki there is a horse stud farm. You can ride horses there. People in Michalowo have their own festivals for example Michalowo Days or Mushroom Day. In the area of rural district there are two man-made lakes. One is in Michałowo and the other is in Bondary, so it’s possible to swim or sail the boat there.

 

Niezbudka – it’s the original name of the village in the county of Białystok later called Michałowo. The name Michalowo derives from the name of land owner. The estate was owned by Seweryn Michałowski who founded Michałowo and he called it “Niezbudka”. People built their houses near “Niezbudka” and they started to call the whole village “Niezbudka”.

 

Hieronimowo – it’s a small village located in Michalowo rural district; in Hieronimowo there are ruins of Manor House built in 19th century; the Manor House was built by general Kazimierz Dziekoński.

 

Michalowo Days – it’s a festival of Michalowo; people can listen to music, see interesting shows or take part in competitions.
